Tutorial Steps:

Step 31

With needle and thread again take many random stitches all over the entire figure, anchoring the fabric to the underlying batting. The more stitches you take, the less slipping and bunching will occur when you pose your finished doll.

Step 32

Neck before it's padded and wrapped. (Note that the neckpiece has been added before I finished this step. It's easiest to add it in the very beginning, of course! :p heh heh!)

Step 33

Blurry close-up of random stitches.

Step 34

Now you will be sewing on a layer of "skin". I use a synthetic suede-cloth called alova suede. It has a fuzzy side and a shiny side. It does not ravel when cut. It has only a slight stretch. Robe velour would work also. Turn the fabric shiny-side out. Keeping the shiny side outward will enable the final bodystocking to slide on more easily. Cut a rectangle of fabric large enough to fold over one leg, enclosing it entirely. Pin tightly in place. Repeat for other limbs.

Step 35

Close-up to show fabric around leg and pinned in place (note shiny side out). Make sure the "skin" fabric is long enough to overlap the wrist and ankle grooves you made in the vinyl.

Step 36

Cut a torso-shape on doubled fabric.

Step 37

Sandwich torso between these two pieces of fabric. Pin tighly all the way around. With needle and thread stitch along pin lines as in photo. Stitch along pin lines on limbs also.

Step 38

Remove pins and trim close to stitch lines.

Step 39

In this picture the torso has not been trimmed yet. The arms and legs have been sewn and trimmed. I also wrapped strong thread tightly around the wrists and ankles, binding the fabric into the grooves you made in the vinyl. I added a line of tacky glue along the thread here as well. You can stitch the tops of the thigh and upper arm skin to the arm and leg openings in the torso skin at this point too.

Step 40

Let's add shoulders and boobs! And a bum! And maybe a codpiece! For male figures you're going to want the shoulders wider than the hips. For this female figure, I gave her straight but small shoulders and a curvy butt. Keep in mind the clothes your figure will be wearing as you make these decisions.
